John Michael ("Mike") Mackovjak of Romeo, Michigan passed away on May 10, 2023. He was born in Evansville, Indiana on the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, September 29, 1953 to John and Betty Mackovjak. After graduating from Roseville High School, he completed his degrees in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan, with highest honors.
He married Jane Elizabeth Miller, the love of his life, on February 4, 1978. They met while undergraduates at the University of Michigan. Together they raised two sons, John and Paul, to whom they were completely dedicated and with whom they shared many adventures. Mike was a devoted husband and father, who provided a loving role model and thoughtful counsel to his sons. He shared with his family his love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing, skiing and water sports of every kind. He was also an avid reader and always had a project going - anything from robots to landscaping. He was a member of St. Clement of Rome parish for 39 years.
Professionally, he was an extremely gifted engineer, and spent his entire 40 year career at General Motors, developing many automotive innovations and holding several patents. He was respected not only for his deep technical and practical knowledge, but also for his integrity and commitment to excellence.
Mike is survived by his wife Jane; his sons: John (Jennifer) of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and Paul(Monique) of New Haven, Michigan; and five grandchildren: John, Luke, Mariana, Elise, and Nathan. He is also survived by his mother Betty Mackovjak of Roseville, Michigan; siblings Dale (Sharon) of Saline, Michigan and Marilyn (Jack) Palazzolo of Weehawken, New Jersey; and 36 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John Joseph Mackovjak.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Romeo, MI. from 10-12am. Funeral will immediately follow, with mass beginning at Noon.
