John P. Maffucci, 91 of Monterey Beach, N.J., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in Montclair and grew up in Cedar Grove, where he spent most of his life. He eventually settled in Monterey Beach, where he and Ann purchased the family shore house in 1966. He was the proud owner of Hillcrest Exxon in Cedar Grove for many years. He continued to work after retirement as an attendant at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, as well as other funeral homes throughout North and South Jersey. John was a proud coach of the Cedar Grove Junior Football, Baseball and the summer PAL Team. He was a sports enthusiast who followed the Yankees and New York Giants. One of his sports highlights was attending the Super Bowl in 1987 when the Giants defeated the Denver Broncos 39 – 20.
John was predeceased by his parents, Donato and Angelina (nee Gianetti) Maffucci, his devoted wife of 69 years, Anna R. Maffucci, his son, Robert Maffucci, and his brother, Michael Maffucci, and his wife, Florence. He is survived by his loving sons, John Maffucci and his wife Phyllis, and Michael Maffucci and his wife Gina.
Family was at the center of John's life. He was a cherished grandfather to Elaina Maffucci and Armando Nardone, Michael Angelo Maffucci and his wife Jenna, Nicole Maffucci, Jenna Anne Maffucci, Cara Ann Maffucci, Jake Maffucci, Justin Maffucci, and Deana Maffucci. He was also a beloved great-grandfather to Vienna, Michael, and Armando, sister-in-law Marie Tocci, and niece Angela Borgstrom (Maffucci).
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove. Services will begin on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Cedar Grove.
