John A Mahoney 82 of Rutland VT passed away on Wednesday December 27, 2023 after many health challenges. He was born July 13, 1941 in Rochester NY. He was preceded in death by his son Philip and his parents Dorothy and Francis Mahoney. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife Jane and his caring,devoted son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Kristin Mahoney. He also is survived by his sisters Kathleen Rossetti(Stephen), Theresa Mahoney, Margaret Mahoney and Karen Walsh(Michael) and several nieces, nephews,as well as great nieces and nephews.
John graduated in 1959 from McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester NY. He went on to attend John Carroll University in Cleveland Ohio, graduating in 1963. While at John Carroll, he was honored with an invite into the Alpha Kappa Psi. A national professional business fraternity.
After a short time working for Eastman Kodak Co in Rochester NY, he enlisted in the army and attended Officer's Candidate School where he was recognized as the most outstanding Private of the Guard and became the Colonel's Assistant, a position of honor.
After graduating from Officer Candidate School he was assigned to a recruiting office in Bristol Tennessee. It was there that he met his first wife, Anne Carris. When his time in the army was over, they moved to New York City where John resumed employment with Eastman Kodak. They were there for a short time but then on to Rutland to work for his then father-in-law at Carris Reels. After his time at Carris Reels he was involved in many economic entrepreneurial enterprises.
John was a true friend and loved by all who met him. Whenever possible John could be found on or near the Rutland Country Club. When able he was the "commish" of his golf group. He was a member of a breakfast club that met almost every morning.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday January 4, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.Funeral services will be held Friday January 5, 2024 at 11:00am at Christ the King Church
