John J. “Jack” Mangan, age 93, of West Chester, PA, formerly of Drexel Hill, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025.
Jack was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Joan (née Smith), his parents John and Anna (née McKenzie), his sister Catherine O’Neill, and his brothers William and Thomas.
Jack was the devoted father of Jack (Gabrielle), Joanmarie Price (Joseph), Michael (Lynn), Patricia, Kevin (Sheila) and Matthew; proud grandfather of John (Brianna), Meghan (Michael), Mary, Brendan (Lauren), Joey (Malka), Patrick, Julia, Jack, Tim (Kristy), Colleen, Allison (Matt), Daniel (Madie), Mary Rose (Ruben), Sean, Clare, and Siobhan; and the loving great-grandfather of Isabelle, Siena, Jack, Caroline, Lucy, Michael, Grace, Maeve, Maggie, and Brigid.
Jack is also survived by his brother Frank and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was born on December 15, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA. He attended St. John’s Orphanage. Jack was a proud graduate of St. Thomas More High School Class of 1949 and LaSalle College Class of 1953. After graduating from LaSalle, he joined the Army, where he was stationed in Japan.
Jack met his beloved wife Joan in 1953. They soon fell in love and continued to write letters to each other while Jack was in the service. They were married in 1956 and raised their six children in St. Bernadette parish in Drexel Hill. Jack worked for INA and Cigna for nearly 40 years. After Jack retired, they moved to West Chester and became parishioners of SS. Simon and Jude.
Jack was a man of deep faith, strong devotion to his family, and unwavering patriotism. Jack never missed daily Mass or Sunday Mass. He was his children and grandchildren’s biggest fan. He was always there for support at every game and important event.
Jack loved spending time on the pool deck of the Garden’s Plaza and jogging on the boardwalk in Ocean City. He loved Irish music, Klondike bars, making his famous cosmos, cheering on LaSalle basketball, and, above all, watching Notre Dame football.
