John Charles Martin

John Charles Martin, 77, of West Simsbury, beloved husband of 52 years to Kathleen "Kathy" (Stuckey) Martin, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Besides his wife, John is survived by his son, JD Martin; his daughter, Julie Porcaro and husband Mike Porcaro; and two grandchildren, Quentin and Lindsay Porcaro. He is also survived by his brother, Todd Martin and wife Mary of Punta Gorda, FL; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lori Chamberlain and husband Terry of Mt. Tabor, VT; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dennis Stuckey and wife Helene of East Meadow, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews.

John led a long life, full of adventures and the enjoyment of numerous hobbies and activities. He is a veteran of the US Army, having served in the Vietnam War from 1967-1969. John comes from a long line of military veterans and actively participated in veterans support groups, bowling teams, and boxing clubs. When not at one of his many veterans group activities, he could be found at home, where he enjoyed being outdoors, particularly gardening. John was also passionate about rehabilitating cars. He always had a "project" car in the garage.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for all of the caregivers that went above and beyond in support of John during his final months.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave, West Hartford, followed by a 12:30 p.m. Memorial Service at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date.
