John Joseph McCabe

John Joseph McCabe, of Bonita Springs passed away on the 26th of November 2025. He was born the son of Irish immigrants in New York on September 19th, 1939. John graduated from Power Memorial High School in 1957 and worked his way through Manhattan College, earning a degree in Physics in 1962. On August 27th, 1960, John married Diana Maria Manno in Manhattan NY.

He spent his career in the United States defense industry working at Westinghouse, the Rome Air Development Center, and the Grumman Aerospace Corporation. He retired from Northrop Grumman in 1998 as an Advanced Airborne Systems Manager.

A technical career as an engineering manager belied John's true character as someone devoted to his family, his Phi Kappa Theta fraternity brothers, and friendships kept since childhood. In September of 2005 John and Diana made their move from Asharoken New York to Bonita Springs Florida where they became active members of the Pelican Landing Community and their Church.

Throughout John's life, he and Diana volunteered in their local community and traveled the country to be present in their grandchildren's lives. They also hosted outrageous parties. Family and friends said they lived by a concept, coined by Diana, called "unlimited fun!"

John McCabe will always be remembered as someone who treasured a good time, great adventures to exotic locations, family holidays, and, most importantly, maintaining old friendships while continuing to make new ones.

He was the last of his generation, being predeceased by brothers James and Patrick and sister Margaret. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Diana, and by his four children, Patrick (Maggie Uhrich), Frances (Cornelius Peeples), John Jr., and Brian (Jeannie née Odin) as well as his five grandchildren, Sophia, Connor, Fiona, John Scott, and Annabelle, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of John's life we be held at 11:00 AM on January 17th, 2026 at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community 19680 Cypress View Dr., Fort Myers, FL.
