John William McCutcheon, 88, of
Dayton, Texas, passed away on December 30, 2025, with loving family members by his side.
He was born on August 29, 1937, in
Haileyville, Oklahoma, to the late John William McCutcheon Sr. and Wynema McCutcheon. He later moved to Compton, California where he lived with his Aunt Thelma Boldt and graduated from high school.
John proudly served in the United States Navy, enlisting shortly after high school graduation, from 1958 to 1962. He was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer Second Class. John spent time stationed in Hawaii, where he met his first wife, Betty Ann, while surfing at the beach. They later married and had their loving daughter, Shelby.
Back in Texas, John was roommates with Mickey Gilley. Around that time, he met and married his second wife, Sharlene, with which he had two cherished daughters, Angela and Lisa.
John worked for Lubrizol Petroleum Chemical Company, retiring after many years of employment. He was a skilled worker at many positions, making him a valuable asset to the plant. Prior to that he worked at NASA helping prepare for the moon mission.
John was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Ann Williams. His second wife Sharlene McCutcheon and his Aunt Thelma Boldt.
He is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Shelby Baker, Angela McCutcheon, and Lisa Wierzbicki (Bobby); one granddaughter and grandson-in-law and one great grandson, Maddison Xiong (Kani), Dawson Alvarez.
John will be remembered for his good sense of humor. He loved his three daughters, granddaughter, and great grandson dearly. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He also had a caring nature and always tried to help others.
For many years John was a proud and active member of the Elks Lodge in Liberty, Texas where he formed many lifelong friendships and contributed to his community. He had a deep love for college football and was an enthusiastic supporter of the LSU Tigers, rarely missing a chance to cheer them on.

There will be a Celebration of Life on January 31st, 2025, at Sterling Funeral Home 602 N Main St,
Dayton, TX 77535. Visitation will be from 2:30-3:30pm. Memorial Service will be from 3:30-4:30pm with snacks and beverages to follow.
