John Allen McDonald, Sr. died on November 10, 2025, at his home. Visitation will be 5pm-7pm, Thursday, November 13, 2025 and 10am until 10:45am Friday, November 14, 2025 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Graveside Service will be 11am Friday, November 14, 2025 at Lakewood South Cemetery following the Funeral service.

John Allen was born on February 7, 1938 in Pelahatchie, MS, the only child of James M. and Devederee C. McDonald. He was a 1956 graduate of Forest Hill High School where he was active in football, baseball, and played in the band. He was also a Hinds Community College graduate and played football there as well. He completed the auto mechanics training courses and subsequently owned and operated MC's Shop for thirty-eight years until his health declined. He was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in 1976 and was limited in his physical activity from that time until his death.

He served eight years in the 155th Infantry of the Dixie 31st division of the MS National Guard.

He served as a deacon and member of Woodville Heights Baptist Church and was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church.

He was known as a person who would provide mechanical assistance to stranded motorists regardless of the time of day, weekend, or holiday. He employed many individuals who were either still in school or were having difficult times. Many young men have related that he conducted himself as a role model for others to follow.

John Allen is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 54 years, Dr. Aggie McDonald, and his son, James McDonald.

He is survived by his son, John Jr (Lee Ellen) of Tylertown, daughter, Angela Bates (Darryll) of Richland, daughter in law, April McDonald of Richland, nephew, Fred McAdams (Mara) of Poquoson, VA, niece, Sandra Westmoreland (Wayne) of Brandon, granddaughters, Morgan Bates, and Victoria McDonald Meadows (Matthew) of Brandon , and a great granddaughter, Ryder Mae Meadows.
