John "Mac" A. McFarland of Marlborough passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Massachusetts General Hospital at the age of 77 on Monday, September 22.
Born, raised, and educated in Waltham, Mac was the son of the late Theodore and Eleanor (Thompson) McFarland. After graduating from Waltham Vocational High School, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country with honor and dedication.
Following his military service, Mac founded Hudson Body and Paint. He later started a long and fulfilling career in corporate security, working with Digital Equipment Corporation, First Security and Boston Scientific. His commitment to the safety and well-being of others was evident throughout his professional life.
It was during this time that Mac met the love of his life, Linda (Pond) McFarland. The two quickly fell in love and soon after were married, beginning a journey together that would be filled with deep love, shared dreams, and countless cherished memories.
Mac was a man of many passions and boundless energy. He found joy in cooking for family and friends, losing himself in a good book, spending time with and spoiling his pups, and in his earlier years staying active through skiing, racquetball and scuba diving. His greatest passions were traveling with his family and supporting his grandchildren at sporting events and dance recitals. His enthusiasm for life and curiosity about the world around him were infectious to all who knew him.
Mac will be remembered for his warm heart, strong sense of duty, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. His legacy of service, passion, and love will live on in the lives of everyone he touched.
Mac is predeceased by his parents Theodore and Eleanor McFarland; his brother Thomas "Tom" McFarland, brother-in-law, Ellsworth "Ells" Hart and his in-laws Phillip and Dorothy Pond.
Mac is survived by his wife Linda (Pond) McFarland of Marlborough; his devoted children Matthew McFarland and his wife Ellie and their children Teddy and Matty of Hudson; Kelly Moore and her husband Ryan and their children Tyler and Kaitlyn of Marlboro; his sister Dolores "Dee" Hart and sister-in-law Judie McFarland, his brother-in-law Michael Pond and his wife Beth.
