John "Jack" McGrory

It is with great sadness the family of John J McGrory announces his passing on July 22, 2025 at the age of 95. Jack was born January 17, 1930, the son of the late John A McGrory and Rose (Bischoff) McGrory. He was raised in Belmont, Mass where he graduated from high school and then went on to Vesper George Art School. He also signed up for the Army Reserve and was in the active reserves for many, many years. His unit was called up for duty in the Korean War but before they deployed the war had ended. Jack worked for the family business Belmont Spring Water for many years before buying it from his father. His family used to travel to St John New Brunswick Canada to visit family which is where he met and fell in love with Lorna Malloy. They were married at St Rose of Lima Church in St John on June 14,1952 and were married for 65 years before Lornas passing in 2018. After they married they made their first home in Lexington MA and then as their family grew they bought a home in Belmont MA. The family had many happy years in Belmont, going on trips to Italy, Spain and Portugal with a group of neighbors and friends, hosted many holiday parties and shuttled their children to their many sports and musical events. In 1971 Jack sold the water business to Coca Cola and stayed on for sometime with the company. Not being one to retire, in 1976 they fell in love with Kennebunkport Maine where Jack designed the beautiful Home they built on Goose Rocks Beach. Between Jack's design and Lornas seamstress ability it could have been featured in Better Homes and Garden magazine. Within a few years he and Lorna opened The Mole Hole Gift Shop in Kennebunkport where they worked side by side for the next 10 years. Retirement finally lured them to Southwest Florida where they made Marco Island and Naples their home before settling in at The Terraces of Bonita for their final years. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Lorna and a daughter Lorna (Molly) Anton who passed on St Patrick's Day of 2023. He leaves behind 3 other children, John G McGrory of Ft Myers, Daniel P McGrory of Bonita Springs and Katheen M (Kate) Foran of Naples. He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren , Wil Lefebvre of Bowling Green Kentucky, Kelsey Medina (Jorge) of Ft Myers, FL, Rose Brown of Jay Maine, Jordyn McGrory of Ft Myers and Em Anton of Lehigh Acres. And his five great grandchildren, Aiden of Naples, Marco, Milo and Maddox Medina of Ft Myers and Lorna Brown of Maine.,and nephews Stephen, Mark and David Havlek of California. There will be a visitation at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home in Bonita Springs from 6pm-8pm on Monday July 28, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on July 30, 2025 at St John The Evangelist Catholic Church 625 111th Ave Naples with burial following the Mass in the Memorial Garden next to his beloved wife.
