Cook Funeral Home - TorringtonJohn Melaragno, 86, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and family man, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Eleanor (Soucy); four daughters, Elisa Michell (Rob), Karen Huxley (Walter), Ann Marie Melaragno, and Coreen Dupre (Steve); five grandchildren, Kyle Michell (Brooke), Katelyn Michell (Lee Weaver), Zachary Huxley (Seina Shirakura), Dylan Dupre, and Aiden Dupre; two great-grandchildren, Ian and Jameson Michell, and a sister, Mary DiGioacchino (Luigi). He is fondly remembered by dear loved one Patrizia, and many longtime friends and family.
Born in Italy, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1954, with his father and his sister Mary, chasing the American dream. Not only did he catch it, but he built an extraordinary legacy. John's vibrant life, radiant soul and caring personality touched everyone who knew him. The Basket Barn of Torrington was John and Eleanor’s labor of love for 30 years. They retired happily to The Villages, Florida. John especially loved playing bocce, golf and dancing with Eleanor under the stars.
A celebration of life services will be held at St. Peter Cemetery, East Pearl Rd, Torrington, CT on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Donations can be made in John’s name to Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care, 601 Mariposa Way, The Villages, FL 32162.
Memories and condolences can be left on the obituary at the funeral home website.
