John "Jack" Melia, age 79, formerly of South Amboy, passed away Friday, July 4, 2025 in Charleston, SC, with his loving family by his side. Born in Edison, he had lived in South Amboy before moving to Summerville 1 year ago. Before his retirement, John worked as a truck driver with Empire Supplies in Plainfield for many years.
He is predeceased by his wife Sandra, his brothers Louis Jr. and Thomas and his sister Catherine Chigas.
Surviving are his beloved children and their spouses Christina Mac Dougall and Mike, Katie Kisselbach & Rick, Jason Szypulski & Jessica, Stacey Zapata, John Melia Jr. & Kate, his cherished grandchildren Ricky, Christine, Julie, Landen, Liam, Jaison, Ryan, Mikayla, Jinexa, Lucas, Jozua and Cassie, his great-grandchildren Bentley and Andi and many other loving family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial visitation will take place at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane in Parlin on Saturday, July 12th from 1pm to 5pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name may be made to The Alzheimer's Association 225 N Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.

Just heard of my first cousin's passing. Jack was always making family members laugh! With his sister and brothers we shared many good times together. Although I haven't seen him for a number of years, he will always be part of my cherished family memories. My wife and I send our prayers and condolences to his family. I was recently informed of Jackie´s passing. We played together as children in Piscatawaytown. Our mothers were first cousins. I was so fortunate to reunite with him in the past few years through our EHS Class of 1963 and our mutual friend Bob McTague. I am so grateful that we had our time together. I have missed jacks 2 am text messages and phone calls since he finally retired a few years ago! I had the pleasure of getting to work with him for many years at
