John Miceli, a respected businessman and family man, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024, at the age of 87 in Wayne County, PA. Born on February 13, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, John spent his formative years in the city that never sleeps, where he developed a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit that would define his life.
In Brooklyn, John met and married his wife, Mary Ann Miceli. Together they built a life filled with joy, challenges, and accomplishments. Their family grew with the addition of their children, Walter, married to Lisa, and Debbie. He was a cherished brother to his late sister Vincenza and her husband Salvatore Pancamo. John was a proud grandfather to Sergeant Patrick Botie (U.S. Army), Timothy Botie, Christina Miceli, and Samantha Miceli, whose achievements brought him immense pride and happiness.
John was the owner and operator of Contract Custom Drapery Service in Brooklyn, NY, where his keen eye for detail and commitment to quality made his business a success. His professional life was marked by dedication and a reputation for excellence, which earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and clients alike. Contract Custom Drapery Service and eventually Shalimar Fabrics, which he ran with his wife, started as a dream in the basement of their home in Glendale, NY and grew to become a provider of window treatments to hospitals, government agencies and private businesses throughout New York. John was always willing to give job opportunities to family and friends.
Beyond his work, John was a man of many interests, with a particular passion for living at the lake, first spending summers at Black Lake, NY with his wife and their young family. John and Mary Ann made lifelong friends at Black Lake, and then finally retiring to Lake Ariel, PA where he loved being out on the boat, fishing and jet skiing with his grandsons. He found solace and joy in the serene waters and the thrill of the catch. His love for the outdoors was infectious, and he often shared these moments with his family and close friends, including Margaret and Tom Carius, who will fondly remember the laughter and stories exchanged on lazy afternoons by the water.
John was a beloved uncle to John and Debbie Pancamo, the late Anthony Pancamo, Salvatore and Anna Pancamo, Maria (widow of Michael Pancamo), Steven and Elizabeth Pancamo, the late Phillip Pancamo, and Rosalie Pancamo, the niece the whole family was waiting for.
Those who knew John could always count on his generosity, his sense of humor, and his unwavering loyalty. He was a friend to many, a mentor to some, and a role model to all. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the businesses he built with his wife, and the family he so dearly loved.
