John Robert Moody

John Robert Moody of Pawleys Island, formerly of Plymouth, MA and Canoga Park, CA passed away peacefully on Sunday September 14, 2025 with his beloved wife Irene and cherished daughter Katelyn by his side. John was the devoted husband of Irene J. (Gagliardi) Moody. Loving father of his treasured daughter Katelyn Rose Moody. DaDa to his second daughter, a golden retriever Bella who adored him. Born on December 17, 1956 and raised in Canoga Park, CA. He graduated from El Camino High School and continued his education at Pierce College. He was the son of the late Robert Dunne Moody and Rosemary (Cossman) Moody. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Kathleen and brother Richard. In addition to his wife Irene and daughter Katelyn Rose, he is survived by his brother Stephen. John moved to Massachusetts in 1989 and began a life long career at BCBS of Massachusetts retiring in 2014. A year later, he consulted for BCBS until 2021 when he officially retired from work life. John served the Plymouth community as a member and Chairman of the Advisory & Finance Committee for over 11 years. He was instrumental in establishing and operating a nonprofit organization that managed a historical home owned by the Town that was used as a Community Center. John and Irene's love story began in 1990. They were inseparable, taking many spontaneous adventures together. Road trips began with "which way are we heading today, North or South?" They honeymooned in Paris and Switzerland. The birth of their daughter Katelyn Rose brought unimaginable joy into their lives. Vacations became a whole new set of adventures. Countless trips to Disneyland, CA, Maine, NH and numerous states in the US. The most memorable was Hawaii in 2018. They began their latest adventure when they moved to Pawleys Island, SC in 2021. It was then that John began to relax and enjoy the benefits of retirement. Soaking up the sunshine and lying in his hammock with a bourbon in hand listening to music with Bella by his side. John was a beacon of light, a dedicated, loving and supportive husband, father and mentor to many at work and within the community. He had a unique ability to listen, absorb, process information and provide constructive feedback with knowledge, compassion and understanding. John was an avid reader. A historian, John collected history books and, wanting to stay factual, regularly researched those topics, when referencing them in everyday conversations. Most of those conversations recently occurred as posts and/or responses to posts on Twitter/X. A lover of philosophy and history, he fell asleep every night listening to philosophical books, the most recent being the Bible. He enjoyed the Golden Age of Hollywood, folk and classic rock music. For years, weekends were spent binge watching Turner Classic movies. John's passing leaves a major hole in the hearts of his wife Irene, daughter Katelyn and numerous friends. His legacy lives on through the wisdom, knowledge and most importantly the LOVE that he shared. John often quoted lines from movies that he had stored in his brain.
