Pawtucket – John E. Moran, Sr., 62, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Lisa A. (DeAndrade) Moran. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of Patricia J. (McElroy) Moran of Pawtucket and the late David J. Moran, Jr.
John graduated from Tolman High School in 1980, where he was the star running back of the football team. He continued his education at NEIT, Warwick, where he studied video and radio production, ultimately earning a Master's degree in athletic administration from Concordia University, Illinois. John worked as a teacher and athletic director for Seekonk Public Schools for the last twenty-five years, following a twenty year career at the Providence Journal.
John had three great passions in his life: sports, teaching and his family. He coached an untold numbers of athletes, including his three sons. John was the proud owner of Ocean State Cornhole, and could often be found watching Patriots' games on his DVR. He taught thousands of students throughout his life, making a lasting impact to many young lives, especially student athletes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Matthew D. Moran; John E. Moran, Jr. and his wife, Alyssa, of North Kingstown; Dr. Jacob P. Moran and his wife, Ella, of Wakefield and Nicole Bessette of Pawtucket; two adoring granddaughters who affectionately referred to John as "Sunshine", Avery and Ivy; three siblings, David Moran, III and his partner, Lynn, of Attleboro; Julie Shea and her husband, Phil, of Pawtucket and Marla Culpan and her husband, Chris, of Seekonk, and many beloved nieces, nephews, dear friends, students and athletes.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Special Olympics Rhode Island - Pawtucket Pacers, 370 George Washington Hwy, Smithfield, RI 02917 would be appreciated. To the Moran Family,
I was so sad when I heard of John´s passing. I was an administrative secretary at the middle school where John taught. My son was a teacher in the classroom next door and they were great friends.
John was such a great teacher; one of the best. He was always so happy; he loved his job and his students. He was such a good dad, he always talked about his children. They were his world!
I am so sorry, you will be on my thoughts and prayers.

Sincere sympathy,
Bea Lima

John Moran, a classmate, a teacher, a coach, a role model, an organizer, a husband, a father, a brother and a friend, the world has lost a beautiful soul. John had the ability to light up a room with his smile and his vibrant personality. He touched the lives of so many both young and old and will surely be missed. I hope all of our hearts will be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as we celebrate a life well lived. RIP John.
