Mullane, John C.
John "Jack" Mullane, beloved husband, father and grandfather (Pop), passed away peacefully on May 27, 2024 at the age of 93. Jack was born February 19, 1931 in Louisville, KY to William and Ella (Green) Mullane. Jack attended St. Xavier High School, followed by enrollment at the University of Louisville. His college studies were interrupted in 1951 when he volunteered for a four-year stint in the U.S. Air Force - a time period that included overseas duty during the Korean Conflict. Following his return from Korea, Jack married his long-time sweetheart, Dorothy (nee Byerly) and they began a family, which grew to include four daughters. Jack resumed his studies at U of L, graduating in 1957 with a degree in accounting. Over the course of the next 35 years, Jack built a successful career at Byerly Ford, where he served as a co-owner and Chief Financial Officer. He was also a member of the Southwest (Shively) Rotary Club, serving as president for several years.
Jack had a passion for woodworking and upon his retirement, he put his handyman skills to work as a 20+ year volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. He could build most anything and was always inventing new tools and time-saving gadgets. Jack's family and friends were the grateful recipients of his many talents over the years. His daughters were especially blessed because they never had to call an electrician or home improvement professional besides their dad.
Jack and Dottie were long-time parishioners and volunteers at St. Agnes and Holy Trinity Catholic churches. Avid golfers, they were also members of Audubon Country Club. Jack especially loved to travel. Along with Dottie, they visited 48 of the 50 states and many countries worldwide. But most of all, Jack enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bill, his son-in-law Dave Berry, and the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Dottie. He is survived by his four daughters; Anne Braun (Keith), Nancy Berry, Amy Soergel (Eric) and Jeanne Oliver (Phillip). Jack was a beloved "Pop" to his nine grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Peggy Mullane and Nancy Byerly Hathaway, and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, June 3rd, from 9:00am-10:00am with service to follow at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Cherrywood Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40207.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Habitat for Humanity, Honor Flight Bluegrass, or the Jeanne Byerly Lechleiter Endowment at the Catholic Education Foundation. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to all the family and friends who were a treasured part of Jack's life through the years.
