John Malcolm "Mack" Mullis
Born September 6, 1939, in Thomasville, Georgia, passed away surrounded by his family on May,19, 2025 in Ashburn, Virginia.
John was a loving husband to Beverly Davis Mullis, a devoted father to his two daughters, Stephanie Prescott and Angela Bender, and a proud grandfather to Ashley Prescott Muir and Chris Muir; John and Autumn Prescott; Caitlyn Bender, and Cameron Bender. He was also a cherished son, brother, and friend, who touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ethelle Mullis, and his sister, Janet and her daughters Cindy and Jackie. He is survived by his sisters JoAnne, Linda, and Glenda, along with their families, including Steve and Kimberly Kitchens; Eric Benfield; Lisa, Jeff, and Greg Murrin; Jenny, Melinda, Martha, Jonathan, and Joseph.
Born in Thomasville, Georgia, he grew up in Tampa, Florida then moved to Bartow with his family as a teenager. John became his high school's star basketball player, first at Hillsborough then at Bartow H.S. A proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, he graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland and began his career teaching history and coaching basketball at H.B. Plant High School in Tampa. He worked as a wealth manager for several companies and eventually moved to Northern Virginia with his family and later started his own company in partnership with his daughter, Angela Bender called AMJ Financial. He was always committed to helping others achieve their goals.
In Virginia he found a second family among a wonderful circle of friends, who became his steadfast companions and made his later years truly special. Friends and family meant the world to him, and he dedicated himself to enriching their lives-whether through his infectious laughter, his generous spirit, or his unwavering support.
John's legacy is one of love, friendship, and joy. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him in return.
A celebration of his life will be held in Virginia at Loudoun Funeral Chapel on May 27, 2025, at 2pm, and a graveside ceremony will be held at Wildwood cemetery in Bartow Florida the following week.

Very sad news. A terrific athlete and human being. Mack was my big brother as a Sig Ep at Florida Southern College. My deepest sympathies go out to his family. God bless!
