John Thomas "Jack" Murray

John Thomas "Jack" Murray, 81, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025. Jack was born on September 1, 1944, to Lucy Anna and John Thomas Murray in Mississippi.
As a child, Jack grew up in South Philadelphia drawing and caring for his younger siblings. He attended Edward W. Bok High School where he specialized in art. After high school, Jack started his career at Bonwit Teller designing window displays. His love for the arts grew as he spent the majority of his career as the Director of Exhibits at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology. Jack curated multiple art exhibits for the Museum and was awarded the Museum's Director's Award in 2003.
Jack enjoyed stamping his passport as he traveled around the world with his travel companion Marge Canovaro. He would often be seen sketching and exploring genealogy records. As a lifelong Philadelphian, Jack was a supporter of the Eagles and Phillies and enjoyed watching games with his sister Anne. He also enjoyed spending many hours cultivating the perfect backyard with his flower gardens and koi pond.
Jack is predeceased by his parents and his beloved dog, Shadow. Jack is survived by his sister Lucy Anna "Anne" Smith, and her husband Richard; his sister Nancy M. Murray, and her husband James; his brother Joseph P. Murray, and his wife Dorothy; his brother George A. Murray, and his wife Mary; his niece Kelly Bernazzoli, and her husband Chris; his nephew James Murray; his niece Kimberly Berkheimer, and her husband John; his niece Lori Fink, and her husband Derek; his nephew Rich Smith; his nephew Maxwell Murray; his nephew George Murray; his great nieces Cailin, Sara, and Sydney; his great nephews Nicholas, Colin, Carter, Henry, and Noah; and his community of close friends.
