John R Nerat

John Rupert Nerat, 40, of Marinette, Wisconsin, passed away on July 17, 2025, at his
home, surrounded by the love of his family after a battle with cancer.
Born on October 2, 1984, in Marinette, John graduated from Marinette High School
class of 2003. He went on to earn a degree in Quantitative Economics from the
University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh.
In 2018, he married Maria Domitrovich, and together they welcomed their greatest joy,
their daughter, Monroe, in 2022. John's family was the center of his world and he
cherished every moment with them.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria and their daughter, Monroe; his mother, Debra
DeMille (Jerry) LeMay; his father, John (Tracy) Nerat; his siblings: Jordan (Hayley) Nerat,
Josh (Madison) Nerat, Aaron (Kirsten) Benson, and Ashley Nerat; his grandfather, John
Nerat; and a stepfather, Patrick Benson. He was a devoted son, a loving husband, a
proud father, and a cherished brother.
John was an avid outdoorsman and a passionate steward of the land, always eager to
share his love for the outdoors with those around him. Whether hunting, fishing, planting
trees, or metal detecting, John found peace in the outdoors. His cabin on the
Menominee River was a get-a-way where much quality and relaxing time was spent
with his family. Baseball and football were also a staple for John, where he could be
found cheering for his favorite teams, the Packers, Brewers and Michigan Wolverines.
John will be remembered for his deep loyalty and his unwavering love for his family and
friends, whom he always found time to be there for. His sense of humor, benevolent
heart, and contemplative nature touched everyone who knew him.
A Visitation will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Birch Creek, MI on
July 22nd from 9-11am. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11am with Fr. Jins Joseph officiating.
Burial will be in Birch Creek Cemetery. All who knew and loved John are welcome to attend and share in honoring his memory. Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family.
