John Calvin Nesbit

Mr. John Calvin Nesbit was born to the late Mr. John C. Nesbit, Sr. and Mrs. Amanda Carr. He was the oldest of two siblings, his sister Ms. Jalene Carr preceded him in death.
Mr. Nesbit, fondly known by many as "Billy" or "Big Daddy" was educated in the Cabarrus County School System and graduated from Shankletown School. He was formerly employed by Cannon Mills where he worked at Plant 6 as a supervisor and stayed for over 50 years. He received an honorary plaque; many rewards and the company did a great write-up about his services in the Concord Tribune.
Mr. Nesbit was a lifelong member of the Gilmore Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. He loved his church, and he would always say "God is massaging your heart with love". He served on the Steward Board and later became the Preacher Steward for over 20 years. Mr. Nesbit sang on the Men Choir and served with the Men Boosters Club. Mr. Nesbit along with Mr. Ernest Ross started Boys Scouts Troop #142 in the community. Mr. Nesbit and Ms. Jean Caldwell served on the Sidestown/Shankletown Community Committee and were responsible for getting sidewalks in the Shankletown Community.
Mr. Nesbit loved to dance in his younger days, and his favorite hobby was golfing. He and his golfing buddies entered tournaments and won many trophies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Willene Nesbit, sister Ms. Jelen Carr, and daughter Ms. Carolyn Davis and nephew William Carr.
He leaves to cherish the memories of his life a daughter Mrs. Caroline Brown (Kalvin) of the home, son John Wayne Stinson (Pearl) of Kannapolis, nephew Derrick Carr of Concord, brother-in-law Mr. Levon Caldwell (Grace), sister-in-law Ms. Marion Stinson, 5 grandchildren, and a great granddaughter Angel McMullen. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as some special family/cousins Mr. Dennis Young, Mrs. Martha Brooks, Mrs. Joyce Alexander; his oldest, special friend Mr. Crawford Love and his Gilmore Chapel Church Family.
Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Friday, June 27, 2025 at Gilmore Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church located at 762 Central Drive in Concord. The visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Lamb Funeral Home Inc. will be serving the family.
