John Downey Niewoit Sr.

John Downey Niewoit Sr. passed away Wednesday, January 21st, 2026 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of the late Barbara Niewoit. Dearest father of John Jr. (Darla), Kathryn Maurer-Brockhaus (Rick), and Keith Dobner (Kelli). Cherished grandfather of Evan James, Emily Kathryn, Alec Robert, Isabel Ann, Jack Logan, Grady Hudson, and Piper Marie. Loving brother of Mary Jo and Daniel. John is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Hilda Niewoit, and his siblings June, Sandra, and Leon. John was a proud United States Army Veteran. After his time in the service, John joined the I.B.E.W. Detroit Local 58, with which he was a working member of for almost 40 years. John was also a goalie for the Junior Red Wings team. John enjoyed bowling, boating, and watching hockey. Visitation Tuesday, January 27th, 2026 from 3-8pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Visitation Wednesday, January 28th, 2026 from 10:30am until time of funeral service at 11am at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile).
