Obituary of John Verner Nipp, Jr.
John "Jack" Verner Nipp, Jr. passed away Sunday, July 13th at the age of 91. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on June 6, 1934, to John Verner Nipp, Sr. and Geraldine Noel Nipp.
Jack grew up in Fort Worth and attended Laneri High School. After graduating, he proudly served in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in various locations. Following his service, Jack pursued a degree in business, first at Arlington State College (now the University of Texas at Arlington) and later at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
For many years, Jack and his family owned and operated Noel's Catholic Supply in Fort Worth, serving the community with dedication and faith. Later, he founded Liturgical Designs Company, specializing in church renovations and pew refinishing, continuing his career in sales with purpose and passion.
Jack met the love of his life, Carol Hickman, on a blind date at a TCU basketball game. They were married on June 2, 1956, in Fort Worth and shared 46 years together before her passing in 2002. Together, they built a family and a life grounded in love, faith, and service.
He loved to travel and ventured across the United States and around the world, cherishing the experiences and memories gathered along the way. Jack also devoted countless hours to volunteering, not only at his church, but also at Texas Health Hospital in Bedford and as an ambassador at DFW Airport.
A lifelong sports fan, Jack especially loved cheering for the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and his favorite college teams. More than anything, he treasured time spent with family and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Carol Nipp; their daughter, Karen Ledel; parents, John V. Nipp, Sr. and Geraldine Noel Nipp; sisters, Dolores (Toppy) Cochran and Noel Evans; and brother, Gerald Nipp.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Jane Nipp Goheen of Colleyville and husband Leo Goheen; son, John Charles Nipp and wife Marie Nipp, of Boerne, Texas; he was the proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren, Theresa Ledel Garrison and husband JeA Garrison, Chris Ledel and wife Lyvinna, Jenny Ledel and husband Alex Organ, Diana Ledel Smith and husband Brandon Smith, Caitlin Keliher and husband Joseph Keliher, Robert Goheen and his wife Mackenzie Goheen, Natalie Goheen Huszar and husband Ralph Huszar, Alyssa Nipp Grunden and husband Brandon Grunden, Barrett Nipp of Austin and Garrett Claunch and wife Kate of Kentucky; great grandchildren, Casen Tracy, Ivy Smith, Everly Smith, Holland Goheen, Rory Huszar, Ethan Grunden, Blake Grunden, Brantley Claunch and Kensley Claunch; along with many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 29th at St. Michael's Catholic Church at 3713 Harwood Road, Bedford, TX 76021.
