John C. O'Neill

John C. O'Neill, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on August 24, 2025, in Media, Pennsylvania. Born in Philadelphia on December 15, 1936, he leaves behind his beloved wife, Joan, his children Theresa, Kathleen, Susan and John, his grandchildren Danielle, Andrew, Kevin, Domenic, Jack, and Kaleigh and his brother James.

John's early years were spent at St. John's Orphanage where he made lifelong and lasting friendships. He graduated from St. Thomas More High School and landed his first job in banking. In less than a year, he joined the Pennsylvania Railroad and retired after 37 years of service from Conrail.

His wife, Joan, was his partner in every sense, sharing in life's joys and challenges. Together, they raised their family in Upper Darby and welcomed their grandchildren who were his pride and joy.

John was known for his love of Cape May, N J, card games, bowling, Philadelphia sport teams, the slots at the casino and all types of horse racing events. The Kentucky Derby was one of his favorite days and he would spend hours reading the racing forum to figure out his trifecta bet.

John's life was marked by devotion to his family and friends. He cared deeply for others, was patient, kindhearted and a source of strength and wisdom for all who knew him. He had a solid work ethic and never believed in short cuts. He was quiet and unassuming in every way but had a witty sense of humor that would make anyone smile easily.

John's memory will continue in his "POP-isms" and stories shared by his family, the values he instilled, and by all those who had the honor of knowing him. He will be deeply missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday, September 5th from 10:00-11:30AM at Logan-Videon Funeral Home 2001 Sproul Rd., Broomall, PA 19008. A celebration of John's life will follow at 11:30AM.
