John Thomas Olsen, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 26, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on July 21, 1956, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, John spent his life dedicated to his family and career. He was a proud graduate of Seventy-First Senior High School, class of 1974.
John had a notable career as a butcher, working at various grocery stores including Winn Dixie, Harris Teeter, and Food Lion. He later achieved his real estate license and contributed his skills to Olsen Realty, where he made lasting connections within the community.
Those who knew John will remember him for his good-natured and easy-going personality. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 46 years, Kathy Taylor Olsen, and a caring father to his son, Thomas Ray Olsen, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Olsen, both residing in Fayetteville. John was particularly cherished as "PaPa" to his beloved granddaughter, Taylor Rae Olsen, who held a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his loving family, including brothers Greg Augustine and Brian Augustine, both of Tennessee. John is also mourned by the memory of his parents, Thomas Allen Olsen and Julia Ann Canady Olsen; his biological father, Richard W. Augustine; and his brother, Jeffrey Allen Olsen, who have all preceded him in death.
A visitation will be held in honor of John on November 1, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Memorial Lounge, located at 201 Anderson Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301. This will be followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM, where family and friends can gather to celebrate his life and share lasting memories.
John's legacy of kindness and love will continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know him.
