John Parker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John F Givnish Funeral Home - Academy Rd on Feb. 9, 2026.
John Henry Parker, originally of Nashville, North Carolina and a longtime resident of Philadelphia, passed away on January 30, 2026, at the age of 75.

John was the beloved step-father of Denise Rannels, Harry Ellis, Jr., and Katherine Blount; a loving grandfather to Kevin, Kip, Khalil, Khaos, LaTray, Kaysaan, Nevaeh, Christine, and Morgan; and a cherished great-grandfather to a host of great grandchildren. He was a devoted brother to Jannie Thomas and Debra Reed, and is also survived by a host of loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Parker; his brother, Jr. Parker; and his beloved wife, Tamra Parker.

John was a graduate of Overbrook High School, Class of 1969, and was baptized at Pinn Memorial Church. John was a truck driver of the United States Postal Service. Then he proudly served as a police officer for the City of Philadelphia from 1981 to 2006, dedicating 25 years to protecting his community.

John enjoyed fishing, playing cards, solving puzzles, playing checkers, and watching old westerns. He enjoyed music and his favorite artists were The Temptations and The Miracles. John also enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Atlantic City and Farmville, Virginia.

John will be remembered as a man who was protective of his family, generous in spirit, stubborn in conviction, funny in nature, and sweet at heart. His love and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to John's Life Celebration on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Rolling Green Memorial Park, West Chester, Pennsylvania.
