John passed away peacefully on Sunday May 07, 2023 with his family by his side after a brief illness at Brian's house.
John attended St. Joseph Catholic school in Bay City and after school John started his apprenticeship to become a Pipefitter/Plumber. He became a lifetime member of 63 years with the UA Pipefitter, Steamfitters and Plumber's Association through Local #816 of Bay City. John was also the Business Manager for Local #816 for the last 10 years of his career before his retirement in 1998 after 38 years of service. The proudest moment of his career was the new units he built out at the Karn Weadock plant which still stands today in Essexville Michigan.
He was a lifetime member of the Bay County Democratic Party in Bay City and past board member of the Bay County Building Authority and Bay Metro Transit. Another proud moment in his life was the development and execution of the Jack and Alice Wirt library where you could also find him reading anything he could get his hands on for hours on end.
John was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, the National Trap Shooters Association and the Frankenmuth Conservation Club since 1967. He was a past member of The Field and Stream and The Saginaw Gun Club. He also received an award for shooting over 200,000 clay targets.
John was also a past member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #88, FOP #103 Lodge, The Michigan Sheriffs Association and a former Marine Deputy with the Bay County Sheriff's Office alongside his son.
On April 04, 1964 he married the love of his life Margaret Rose Gradowski in Holy Trinity Church, and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
His passion for the outdoors was never ending. From hanging out in the garage working on something to Trap/Skeet shooting every Tuesday and Friday night, gardening, boating, fishing on Houghton Lake and the Saginaw Bay to deer hunting back in the day or just plain sitting on the back patio enjoying a cold beer listening to nature. He also enjoyed sitting in his gun room reloading his "top secret" shotgun shells and reading till the early morning hours.
Along with his wife Margaret, he leaves to cherish his life of beautiful memories, witty humor, stories and laughs are his two children John and Marie Wendt of Bay City and Amy of Chicago, Il. And also, all of his feline friends he adored and took in over the years. A half-brother and half-sister, Mike (Karla) Weber of Bay City and Mary Beth (Walt) Eagan of Saginaw Mi.
