John E. Phillips, Jr., 74, of Salisbury, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. Born on December 28, 1947 in Milford, DE, he was the son of the late John E. Phillips, Sr. and Dorothy I. Phillips Hudson.
John proudly served his country, serving in the United States Army, Army Reserves, and the National Guard. Professionally, John served as a Mechanic with City of Fruitland for 28 years. He was a longtime member of the National Street Rod Association and the Redmens Lodge in Fruitland. John loved all things cars. He owned many cars over the years, and was particularly proud of his 1939 Ford Coupe, winning many awards. John enjoyed street rods, drag racing, stock car racing, car shows, Delmar Stock Car and Nascar. His love of racing and cars combined with another passion, travel. Some of his favorite places to go were in Pennsylvania: York, Hershey, and Lancaster.
John is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Phillips; his son, John E. Phillips III (Michelle) of Salisbury, MD; his daughter, Tammy Johnson (Keith); his grandchildren, Taylor, Wade, Blair, Gavin, Paige, and Dane; his sisters, Sharon Quillen (Chuck) and Sylvia Brohawn, both of Delaware; special aunt and uncle, Shirley and Bill Wooters; and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his step-father John C. Hudson; and two brothers, James A. Phillips and Kenneth R. Phillips.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2022, 11:00 am. A funeral service will start at 12:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home- Salisbury, MD 21804. Reverend Mike Lokey will officiate. Interment to follow at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
