John Wade Phillips, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 19, 1944 in Guilford County to the late Paul Russell Phillips and Pearl Coble Phillips, and was the husband of 57 years to Judy Bowman Phillips who survives.
John retired after 30 years as a Chemical Sales Representative. He was a member of Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church, where he served on various committees and was a Sunday school teacher. John was a 1976 graduate of Appalachian State University and served six years in the Coast Guard Reserves. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. John was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Survivors other than his wife, Judy Phillips include his daughters, Cathy Phillips Scott and husband Lester and Joyce Phillips Allison and husband Keith; grandchildren that he adored, Caroline McDowell and husband Miles, Jeff Barfield, Miranda Allison, John Russell Barfield and wife Sarah; brother-in-law, Bob Pugh; and nephews, Philip Pugh and wife Donna and Neal Pugh and wife Katherine. John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Paulette Phillips Pugh.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of John will be held at 11:00am Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Brian Wardlaw with the burial to follow at Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 10:45am Saturday prior to the service and other times at the residence.
