John F. Pluckhahn of Glidden, Iowa passed away on June 27, 2022 after a long battle with ALS.

Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for John's family at www.sharpfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Pheasants Forever or Ducks Unlimited in John's memory.
He was born on July 22, 1940 to Frederick H. Pluckhahn and Erma Louise (Hartwigsen) Pluckhahn. He grew up on a rural farmstead northeast of Carroll and was one of the last to attend Grant #5 grade school in the country before attending and graduating from Carroll High in 1958.
A natural talent with all things mechanical, he spent his working career in the automotive industry. In 1960 he started working at Bliss Tire Service and stayed there he opened J's Align in 1978. This was the first of several successful commercial ventures for John that included a snow removal company and mini storage business. John steadily grew J's Align from its beginnings as a one person operation to a multiple employee company. He moved it into its final home in 1989, and served thousands of customers over the years before he retired in 2005.
John and his wife Jean (Elerding) made their home outside of Glidden for many years before moving into town after retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, sharing his love of hunting and fishing with generations of friends. Some of his greatest joys in life were spending time in the duck blind or on a boat holding a fishing rod. He was a lifelong supporter of wildlife preservation and education organizations like Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited. John will be greatly missed by the many friends he made over the years as well as his wife Jean, son Lon (Cathy), grandchildren Rory, Echo, and Brendan, and sister Sondra.
