John Raymond Plumley, age 85, proud Christian and family man, passed from this earth surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, January 28, 2024. John was born on July 17th, 1938, in a farmhouse in Zephyr, Texas to Johnie Franklin and Vera Viola (Davee) Plumley.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday February 1st, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Lorenzo under the direction of Adams Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 31st, 2024 from 5:00-6:00 pm.
John attended Lakeview High School in San Angelo, Texas and graduated in 1956. While attending high school, he met the love of his life in Nancy Powers and they would marry on July 13th 1957. They would go on to have 2 daughters and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John worked at a salt supply mine and as a welder in Carlsbad NM for several years before settling in Slaton Texas in 1973. He began working at Plains Cooperative Oil Mill that year and would go on to enjoy a 27 year career before retiring in 2000. After retirement, he and Nancy moved to Lake Whitney, Texas and enjoyed many years fishing and playing golf. In their later years, they moved to Lorenzo Texas to be closer to family and it was during this time that he began working with his son-in-law and grandsons on the family farm.
While his first loves were his wife and daughters, John enjoyed a wide range of activities including fishing, golfing, riding horses, steer roping, cooking, baking, and making pickles. He loved to provide all the desserts for any family gathering. You could always count on him for a pie, cake, or cobbler at Thanksgiving. Anyone who met John would know instantly that he was an honest and honorable man with a quick wit and love of a good prank.
John is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gene and sister Doris.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy, and his sister Molly. He is also survived by daughter Jettonne and partner Joe, daughter D'Ann and husband Mark, grandchildren Aaron and wife Tricia, Carly and husband Brent, Ryan and wife Stephanie, John and partner Hannah, Josh, and wife Courtney. Beloved great grandchildren include Jordan and wife Daniela, Keegan and partner Felicity, Cameron and partner Brook, Weston, Logan, Aiden, Brodie, Carson, Brayson, Hazelee, and JT. Also, great-great grandchildren Amelia and Braelynn and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, John would be honored for donations made to Lorenzo Baptist Church or the Lorenzo Senior Citizens Center.
