Obituary
John W. "Jack" Porter, Capt. USN DC (Retired)
August 13, 1939 – December 28, 2025
Jack was born August 13, 1939 to Donald and Iada Porter in Worland Wyoming. He attended public schools and graduated from Worland H.S In 1957. Following graduation, he went to the University of Wyoming and then on to the University of Oregon Dental School. After completing his professional certification, he went on active duty with the US Navy. During his Naval career, Jack served on aircraft carriers Kitty Hawk and Saratoga as well as a tour "in country" in Da Nang, Vietnam. He was then stationed at Naval Station San Diego for several years and retired with the rank of Captain.
Jack married his first wife, Carol Behr, in 1968 in Columbus, Ohio while pursuing his specialization in prosthodontics at Ohio State University. Carol preceded him in death in 1974 due to Hodgkin's Disease.
Upon retirement, Jack returned to Worland where he was involved in the care of his aged parents, pursued his love of fishing and hunting, and the restoration of the family's mountain cabin.
An avowed Christian, Jack was a dedicated member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church where he was involved in diverse roles, both in the church and in the community until his health began to fail. After 35 years of single life, Jack married his friend Christiane Gee in 2009. Their mutual love and devotion to dogs brought them together and remained an important feature of their family.
Christiane preceded Jack in death by two months, in the Worland Care Center where they both resided. Jack's brother, Tom Porter and his sister Stella Fritzler also preceded him.
Survivors include: his sister, Alice Leadbeater (John) of
Chesapeake, Va.; nieces, Lynne Price, Lori Morrow, Lea Leadbeater, Jeannine Leadbeater; and nephews, Brad Fritzler, Mark Fritzler, Paul Fritzler and John Leadbeater.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the friends and community members who enriched Jack and Christiane's lives, and to the sta of the Worland Health Care and Rehab Center for their compassionate care. A special gratitude to Paul Fritzler and his cousin Scott Fritzler, who were devoted to Jack's care and comfort in his final months, as were his long-time friends Keith and Carolyn Gentzler.
