John Andrew “Andy” Proper, 67, passed away peacefully at his home on Christmas Day. Born in Miami, Florida, Andy grew up in St. Petersburg and lived most of his life in Blountstown, which he proudly called home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Gloria Proper, and his brother, Christopher Michael Proper. He is survived by his former wife and dear friend, Gwendolyn Proper; his daughter, Catie Maklary; his son-in-law, Daniel Maklary; and his granddaughter, Sybil June Maklary. He is also survived by his siblings Deby Roberts (Tim), Kelley Pace (Jon), and Jeffery Proper, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Andy proudly served in the United States Marine Corps before working for many years as a postal worker. He was quiet, wryly funny, deeply sentimental, and known for his sharp wit, creativity, and love of cooking, gardening, fishing, sailing, music, and theology. A devoted Catholic, Andy found great comfort in prayer and the rosary.

“Preach the Gospel at all times; when necessary, use words.”
— Saint Francis of Assisi
