John Elmer Quandt was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 12, 1942, to Elmer and Mary Quandt. Some weeks later, on May 10, 1942, John was welcomed into the Kingdom of God's Grace through the miraculous washing of rebirth via Holy Baptism at Hope Lutheran church in Detroit. Led by the Spirit of God, John made confirmation of his Christian faith at Hope Lutheran church on March 25, 1956. The confirmation verse he embraced for the rest of his days was 2 Timothy 3:14: "But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them."
John's childhood years and elementary schooling occurred in Detroit. He then attended high school at Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, graduating in 1960. On December 29, 1962 John was united in holy matrimony to Sandra Helen Johnson. Their marriage was blessed by Christ's Word and mercy and they enjoyed the additional blessing of four children: Michael, Roger, Julie, and Paul.
John served his community at large first as a police officer, then as an insurance agent, and finally as a public minister of the Gospel i.e. a pastor. In 1976 John returned to school to study for the public Gospel ministry. Following his graduation from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota and then Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin, John answered the call of the Lord's people to serve as a mission-minded, soul-caring pastor. Spanning the years 1984-2007, John served Christ and His lambs at Lone Star Lutheran in Tyler, Texas; Good Shepherd Lutheran in Kearney, Nebraska; and Beautiful Savior Lutheran in West Des Moines, Iowa.
On November 10, 2025, the Lord in His infinite wisdom and boundless mercy called John home to His Kingdom of Glory. He sent His holy angels to gather and carry his soul to the side of the Lord at the age of 83 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Elmer and Mary ("Maddie") Quandt; his brothers Richard, David and Robert; and his sister, Maryellen Graham. Surviving John, to celebrate with tears in their eyes are his wife of 62 years, Sandra; children Rev. Michael (Mary) of Pickens, SC; Rev. Roger (Eva) of Ridgeland, WI; Julie (Rev.
