Donald Keith Quandt, age 82, of Farina, Illinois, passed away, Sunday, March 29, 2026, at St. Johns Hospital, Springfield, Illinois, surrounded by the love of his family.
Funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Pagel Funeral Home, Edgewood, Illinois, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until start of service. Pastor Mike Feldman will be officiating. Burial will take place in the Edgewood Cemetery, Edgewood, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edgewood Cemetery, Edgewood American Legion Post #1168, or donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left at www.pagelfuneralhome.com
Don was born December 25, 1943, in Vandalia, Illinois, the son of Fred C. Quandt and E. Marguerite Simmons. He married Kathy M. Kaiser on August 27, 1969, in St. Peter, Illinois, and they were blessed with 3 children, Angie, Amy, and Matt. He graduated in 1961, from LaGrove High School in Farina, Illinois, and entered the Army right after until 1969. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant E6, worked in the Dial Central Repair offices, did schooling in Fort Dix, New Jersey, and Fort Ord, California, and was overseas in Munich, Germany. He served in Vietnam from 1966-1967. He was a member of the Edgewood American Legion Post #1168, VFW #9770 in Brownstown, Illinois, and was a post commander of the St. Peter Legion. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church, Salem, Illinois.
Don worked as an electrician for over 30 years. He grew up helping with farming and livestock on the family farm. His love of farming continued with planting a garden every year and sharing the produce with family and friends. He also loved watching college basketball, “GO ILLINI”. His greatest joys were his grandchildren, but especially his great-granddaughters, Gracelyn and Reese.
Don is survived by his wife: Kathy Quandt, two children: Angie (husband, Brian) Horath and Amy (husband, Rodney) Stanfield, four sisters: Carolyn Sigrist, Shirley Schaefer, Charlotte McGuire, and Bev Field, one brother: Dick (wife, Joyce) Quandt, three grandchildren: Garrett (wife, Rachel) Stanfield, Olivia Stanfield, Cassidy (husband, Austin) Staggs, two great-granddaughters: Gracelyn and Reese Stanfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Marguerite Quandt, son, Matt Quandt, and brother Ted “Tator” Quandt.
