Robert Quandt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michaels Funeral Home and Cremation Care on Nov. 6, 2025.
Robert "BQ" Quandt
Resident of Fox Valley for over 30 years
Formerly of Chicago
Robert "BQ" Quandt, 75, peacefully passed away October 31, 2025 in Batavia.
Robert was born December 31, 1949, in Michigan, to the late Walter and Alice Quandt. He was a man whose curiosity and creativity knew no bounds. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Engineering, BQ built a lifelong career as an electronic engineer, someone who didn't just understand how things worked but found joy in making them work better.
He was the founder and owner of ECEP Inc. in West Chicago, where his love of tinkering with Electronics, motorcycles and cars became more than a hobby; it became a way of life shared with his business partner and best friend, Richard Vitellaro.
When BQ wasn't in the shop or with a soldering iron in hand, he could often be found in his kitchen. He was an accomplished winemaker with a fondness for dry, red wines, and a cheesemaker who appreciated the art of doing things from scratch. Cooking was another of his great joys, a creative outlet that blended precision and passion, much like everything else he did.
A lifelong fan of the Beatles, BQ also played guitar and never turned down a good jam session with April. He loved Corvettes, a good engine rumble, and the freedom of the open road or the open sky. As a licensed pilot, he delighted in flying Cessnas out of Midway Airport, savoring the view from above as only a true tinkerer turned aviator could.
BQ's curiosity also extended to the airwaves. He earned his Amateur Radio Extra Class license, the highest level of amateur radio certification in the United States. Out of 50 questions on the rigorous exam, he missed just one, nearly a perfect score.
Robert lived a life full of invention, flavor, and sound, a life that reflected both precision and play. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, his dry sense of humor, and the endless enthusiasm and curiosity he brought to every pursuit.
Loving partner of over 30 years of April Martinez, beloved sister Karen and Paulette; dear friend of Deb Selenis. He is preceded in death by his faithful German Shepherd, Sherman, who was always by his side. BQ will be missed by all those who knew him.
