John Sanders Redmon
April 30, 1929 - September 11, 2025
John Sanders Redmon, a longtime resident of
Cantonment, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the age of 96. He was born in Graceville, FL, on April 30, 1929, to the late Russell Coy and Bessie (Worley) Redmon. He was blessed with 44 years of marriage to his late wife, Frances (Tripp) Redmon.
John was passionate about life, enjoying many hobbies including fishing, farming (raising cattle and hogs), gardening (he maintained a garden until the age of 93), beekeeping, and vacationing with his family in the mountains. A lifelong sports enthusiast, John was an avid fan of Florida Gators football, Atlanta Braves baseball, and boxer Roy Jones Jr.
John had a work ethic that was second to none. He was always ready to lend a hand to family, friends, or neighbors in need. His career as a local and long-haul truck driver took him to many beautiful places, but he always cherished his home in Cantonment.
John was a member of Pinehaven Baptist Church and a former member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church, where he ran the bus ministry. It was there that he formed lasting friendships with Dowlin Black and Frankie Knowles, whom he spoke of often and missed dearly after their passing.
John is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Frances; brothers Louie, Rock, and Gene; sons Gary Tomlinson (Evelyn) and Dale Tomlinson; daughter Patricia Stewart; grandson Billy Gray; great-grandson Richard White; and great-granddaughter Kimberly Smith. He is survived by his brother Hill Redmon; children Janice Smith (Stan, deceased), Ann Gray (Jerry), Daren Tomlinson, Joan Redmon (Roy Stone), and Jody Redmon; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Faith Chapel North in Cantonment, with Pastor Darrell Black officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers include Austin Redmon, Devin Bryant, Dane Kata, Jonathan Daniels, Ethan Daniels, and Maryjane Kata. Honorary pallbearer: Tripp Currey.
Special thanks to Dale Flowers, a neighbor who was a true friend, regularly helping with the yard work and keeping in touch with John. We are deeply grateful to Solaris Assisted Living Facility for their compassionate care (December 2024 - June 2025), and to Emerald Coast Hospice for their support in John's final months, especially Chaplain Greg Nowell, who always had an encouraging word and Evelyn Fields the aide, who made sure he was well cared for.
John's life was a testament to love, hard work, and faith. He will be forever missed.
Revelation 21:4
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
