Obituary of John Philip Resch
John Philip Resch, affectionately known as Phil, passed away on August 5, 2024, at the age of 85. Born in Park Rapids, MN, John grew up surrounded by family before moving to Minneapolis after high school. His varied career included positions at Minneapolis Moline and Pinecrest, but he is most remembered for his 27 years with the Minneapolis Police Department, retiring in 1989. Following retirement, John co-founded Windsor Shutter, earning acclaim for his custom-made shutters.
John was a devoted family man, survived by his daughters Conni (Greg) Van Gompel and Laura (James) Brown, his sons Allen (Kim Landes) and Aaron (Terry), and his cherished grandchildren Jenna Hansen, Amanda (Bren) So, Joshua (Brandon) Resch-Lien, Ramine, and Joe, along with great-granddaughters Lily and Rose. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret, his grandson Parker, his parents Theodore and Arlys Resch, and his in-laws Bror and Mabel Johnson.
An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed his cabin, sailing, fishing, and hunting. He and Margaret traveled extensively, including a memorable trip to the Netherlands to visit their son Allen. John also explored Canada, Mexico, and China with his cousin Ann. Beyond his work, he had a deep passion for woodworking and enjoyed watching baseball and football or sharing a good beer with loved ones.
Visitation will begin at 1 PM, followed by a service at 2 PM on August 14th at The Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7835 Brooklyn Boulevard, Brooklyn Park.

I love you so much Grandpa! I wish I could have made it to Minnesota to see you one last time. You've always been so good to me, and we've created some of the best memories together. I'll forever cherish our adventures in Las Vegas with Mom and Dad, and all the fun we had exploring new restaurants in Minnesota. You brought me so much joy when I needed it most, and you were always there for me as an adult.

I'm going to miss our weekends at the cabin, going on the boat for the 4th of July to watch the fireworks together, and watching you grill or fish. It hit me this week that we shared so many "last times" without even realizing it. Every holiday, I think of being at your cabin or your house-they both felt like second homes to me. As I start new traditions with my husband, your spirit will always be a part of them.

Thank you for being not only my grandpa but also my friend.

Until we meet again
