John Whitney Richard, Sr. entered eternal rest on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the age of 80; he was born on August 13, 1945, in Opelousas, Louisiana, to the late Joseph V. Richard and Lucy Richard.

John was a longtime resident of Algiers, LA.
He attended L.B. Landry High School, graduating with the Class of 1964.
He was employed for many years in the service department with O'Donnell Brothers.

John was the beloved husband of the late Janet Marie Richard for 36 years. From this union there were 3 children–Ronald Joseph Richard, John Whitney Richard, Jr. (Ellen), and Ivory Paul Richard. He was the devoted grandfather of Ronjenae Richard, Ava Richard, Aiden Richard, Ana Richard, Trayqwine Solomon, and Ziyelous Solomon, and the proud great-grandfather of Ka'liyah Solomon. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife–Janet Marie Richard; parents– Joseph V. Richard and Lucy Richard; and brother–Harry Richard.

John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose devotion to family was the center of his life. His legacy of love, strength, and guidance will live on through all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to the funeral service on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at All Saints Catholic Church, 1441 Teche Street, New Orleans, LA 70114.
Father Fred Kaddu will be the Celebrant.
The Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 9:45 AM.
The Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 500 De Armas Street, New Orleans, LA 70114.

Professional Arrangements are entrusted to Murray Henderson Funeral Home, 1209 Teche Street, New Orleans, LA 70114.
