John James Riska III

Obituary
John James Riska III, age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
John was born on January 27, 1944, in Chicago, IL. He built and operated his own business for 35 years (Rite-Tec Communications) in the field of Publications. He enjoyed vintage cars (owning a few) and going to auto shows. His special joy was his fully restored 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury. He adored his yard/gardens. Other interests of John's included learning vintage Colt firearms and national events. He loved his longtime friends dearly, keeping contact with them since his youth. John was known as someone who was always generous and thoughtful. More than anything, he enjoyed and loved his family beyond measure.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Marija Riska (nee Bernotas); loving children, Lisa (Mike) Riska, John (Hillary) Riska, Joseph (Tammy) Riska, and Juliet (Jason) Hogan; grandchildren, Gabriel and Ava Riska, Grant and Lily Hogan, Ethan and Claire Riska; brother, Raymond (Norma) Riska; nieces and nephews, Raymond, Stephen, and Suzanne; sister, Audrey Riska; nephew and nieces, Patrick Smith, Audrey Smith, and Angela Smith-Ibarra.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Sophie Riska.
A visitation for John will be held at 3:00-7:00 pm, with a prayer service led by Fr. Jerome Koutnik immediately following the visitation at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
