John Ritch (1943–2025)
John Burnette Ritch, 82 of
Kissimmee, Florida, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2025, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in
Graham, Texas, and raised in Monticello, Florida, as an only child to his parents, Jesse and Lucia Ritch.
Mr. Ritch graduated from the University of Florida, where he earned both a degree in Advertising and his Juris Doctor (J.D.). During his collegiate years, he was an active member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, the Blue Key Honor Society, and various political organizations. His contributions led to his induction into the University of Florida Hall of Fame.
Upon graduation, he and his wife, Jan, relocated to Kissimmee, where he began his legal practice with Murray Overstreet, Jr. This partnership later expanded, resulting in the formation of the law firm, Overstreet, Miles, Ritch and Cumby.
Mr. Ritch was a deeply engaged leader within the community. He was an active participant in numerous organizations, including the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Rotary Club. He served on the Tourist Development Committee and was instrumental in the founding of the Council on Aging, where he also served as one of its first board members.
Demonstrating his dedication to regional governance, he was appointed by Governor Lawton Chiles as the inaugural representative from Osceola County to the Orlando Aviation Authority Board, overseeing the airport's operations.
An avid Florida Gator fan, Mr. Ritch enjoyed exploring the world through travel with his wife and family. He maintained a lifelong commitment to learning, actively reading about economics, politics, and mysteries. He cherished spending time with his family and relaxing by the beach.
He is survived by his wife, Jan, of 57 years; his daughter, Allison Bishop Berner, and her husband, David Berner; his two grandchildren, Anderson and Brooks Bishop; his sister-in-law, Jennifer Jackson, and nieces Lucy Cuda, Kathryn Brauning, and Samantha Smith.
Visitation for John will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Roger C. Thompson Memorial Chapel, Conrad & Thompson funeral Home, 511 Emmett Street,
Kissimmee, Florida 34741. Private graveside service for the family will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, in St. Augustine, Florida.
