John “Gary” Roberts, 83, passed away peacefully at his home near Phelps Mill on October 27, 2023.
He was born November 08, 1939, at Wright Hospital in Fergus Falls to John and Doris (Martinson) Roberts. Gary was raised in Amor Township and graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1957. He served in the United States Army from March 1958, was deployed to Taiwan and honorably discharged in February 1961. Gary was a union plumber-pipefitter by trade.
He was united in marriage to Rebecca Barry in 1965 and blessed with four children. Rondalyn (John) Erickson, Kristi (E.B.) Floersch, Julie (Brenden) Bleess and Lukas (Maggie Friedrich) Roberts.
He was proud of his children and the home he and Becky built. He was a very hard worker. Some of his favorite activities included hunting, fishing, gardening, wine making, car restoration and repair. He loved sharing his legendary stories and had a great sense of humor. He always enjoyed the company of his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clifton Roberts, sister Janet Gilbertson and great-grandson Brooks Jampsa.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, his four children, grandchildren Nathan (Bailey Sandy) Erickson, Alexandra (Dalton) Jampsa, E.B. (Tara Skauge) Floersch, Elias (engaged to Emma Jaroszewski) Bleess, Isaac Bleess, Lydia Roberts and great grandsons Mason and Elijah Erickson and Decker Jampsa. Siblings, Rodney Roberts, Ann Diers and Tim Roberts.
Funeral Services will be at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 11 a.m., with visitation 1 hour prior in Fergus Falls, MN.
Interment: St. James Catholic Cemetery, Maine Township
Funeral arrangements are with the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Fergus Falls.
