John Rosenberger Obituary

Visit the Flanner Buchanan - Speedway website to view the full obituary.

John Kenneth Rosenberger, 68, of Greenwood, is now at peace, having joined the love of his life, Marilee, in eternal rest. He was born on August 28, 1957, in Indianapolis to Thomas “Tom” and Thyra (Lannerd) Rosenberger. Survivors include his children, Holly Rosenberger Serban (Jason) and Brian Taylor (Heather), and eight grandchildren (Caleb, Kamden, Isabella, Bella, Cayson, Robbie, Ashton, and Brooklyn). Also surviving are his brothers Scott, Kurt (Jill), and Pete and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

John had fond memories of growing up with his brothers on the Northwest side of Indianapolis, where he was a wrestler and played football and baseball. He also coached football for the next generation of players, including his son, Brian (“Take a lap, Taylor!”), and his nephews, passing on his love and passion for the game. He was an avid reader of books, crossword puzzler, Yahtzee master, and proponent of lifelong learning; working for many years in higher education, helping others reach their goals as an Assistant Director of Financial Aid at IUPUI, his final alma mater.

John absolutely loved to fish, going on many a fishing trip with his brother, Kurt, and other lifelong friends. He enjoyed watching football, namely the Colts and his beloved Hoosiers, much to the chagrin of his father and brothers, except the cool one, Pete.

John was a fun uncle and enjoyed telling jokes, rough-housing, and seeing his nieces and nephews succeed. He loved and protected his daughter fiercely and always showed up for her. There was nothing he was more proud of than his children and grandchildren. John was tough, stubborn, loyal, kind, fun, and generous. His playful spirit will be missed but remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him…How do you scare a bee? Boo-bee!
