Mike Nance Obituary

Visit the Flanner Buchanan - Speedway website to view the full obituary.

Michael David Nance, 71, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully at home Saturday, November 8, 2025. He was born August 14, 1954, in Providence, Kentucky to the late Eugene W. Nance and Delores B. Nance. He was also preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years, Roberta Nance.

While growing up in Kentucky, his love for music started with strumming a guitar. From the age of seven, Mike enjoyed listening to and playing bluegrass and country music. The spark for music grew while attending Madisonville North Hopkins High School where he became a member of the marching band, stage band, and choir. He was also active in the FFA from a young age as well.

He graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with a bachelor of science degree in Accounting. After graduating, he obtained his CPA license and worked as a bank auditor in Indianapolis for many years. Mike also owned the UPS Store in Speedway with his wife for over fourteen years.

One of his great accomplishments was serving on the Wayne Township School Board for thirty-one years, serving as an officer for thirteen of those years and President for six. He also was the ISBA Legislative Liaison for many of those years, working hard to improve his schools and community. Mike never met a stranger and could always find a good conversation while lending a helping hand.

He is survived by his daughter Becky (Courtney Harwell) Nance and son Corey (Jennifer) Nance, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren Ryleigh, Evangeline, Jameson, and Zariyah; sister in law Mary Katherine (Gary) Dempsey of Smyrna, Tennessee; nieces Reagan Dempsey, Alison (Brad) Bynum, and nephew Kyle (Claire) Dempsey. He is also survived by his uncle Wallace Braden Jr; cousins Gail (Aaron) Baumhofer, Martha Carter, Rodney Braden, and Cindy Elder; and numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Speedway Saturday, November 22nd at 12pm. Burial will follow at West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. Visitation will be at The Grand Hall at Westlake Gardens Friday, November 21st from 3-8pm and Saturday, November 22nd from 10am-12pm at Flanner Buchanan-Speedway prior to the service. Service will be livestreamed for the ones who are not able to attend with us.

Pallbearers: Corey Nance, Gary Dempsey, Kyle Dempsey, Jeff Butts, Rodney Braden, Aaron Baumhofer, Shaun Lang, Mike Johnson, Bill Grant (Honorary), Bob Grant (Honorary), Tommy Grant (Honorary), and Brandon Bowman (Honorary).

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the MSD of Wayne Township Education Center Area 31 Student Experiences or to your local FFA chapter in Mike's memory. Envelopes will also be available at visitation and the funeral home.
