Violet L. "Cindy" Nivens

After 7 1/2 years of battling metastasis lung cancer and 12 years cirrhosis of the liver. With heavy hearts we're saddened to announce that Violet Lucinda "Cindy" (Cook) Nivens left us to go be with her Lord and Savior to sit at his feet at the age of 74 on November 19.
Cindy started her career right out of high school. She moved from Stendal, Indiana to Indianapolis and started work at Western Electric but then went to work at Eli Lilly and Company where she worked for 36 years. There she made many friends and long lasting friendships.
Cindy was a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister, and aunt.
She enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts, sewing, making masks during covid to donate. Working puzzles and she loved getting together with family and always ready to play games and sing karaoke.
When she attended church she enjoyed going to Salem Missionary Baptist Church. She always felt at home and enjoyed Brother Jenkins preaching. It reminded her of the church she was raised in.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Willard D. Cook and Ester M. (Smith) Cook, grandson, Chase James Henry; brothers, Otus and Richard Cook; sisters, Verlan Willis, Betty Nalley, and Mary Pate (Don);and two infants, Karen and Janice Cook.
She is survived by her loving and care giving husband, Gene Nivens; daughters, Michele L. Ragland and Crystal Lee Harves; her granddaughter, Emma B. Harves; her siblings, Charlotte Dedman (Joe), Sonny Cook, Darrell Cook (Marquette), and Gary Cook (Toni); lots of nieces and nephews whom she loved very much; and her best friend, Lynn (Crooks) Roach sisters of the hearts.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025 from 12:30 pm until the time of service at 2:30 pm at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center at The Gardens of Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN.
Cindy will be laid to rest in The Gardens At Olive Branch Cemetery and Mausoleum Park.
