John Runkle Obituary

John L. “Bud” Runkle, 84, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, in The Ohio State University Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

He was born in Saint Paris, Ohio on October 29, 1939, the son of the late John G. and Mary M. (Maggert) Runkle. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Jean Louise Runkle and a brother, William Runkle.

On January 15, 1961, he married the former Sherrill Anne Moots in the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine, and she survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Kelly (Glenn) Edgar of Marysville, Ohio and Kathy (Steve) Runge of Dublin, Ohio, three grandchildren, Wes (Cortlyn) Edgar, MacKenzie “Toots” Edgar, and Cole Runge, two great granddaughters, Lydia Ann Edgar and Paige Bradley, a brother, Steve (Tamara) Runkle and many nieces and nephews.

Bud was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a U.S. Air Force Veteran, where he received an honorable discharge. He was a hardworking family man who provided for his family. He worked for Super Foods (Nash Finch) up to his retirement in 2000.

In early retirement, Bud and Sherrill enjoyed their summers at Kamp-A-Lott and being close to their daughter Kelly and family in Ohio and they enjoyed being snowbirds spending their winters in Parrish, FL and close to Kathy and family in Florida. They enjoyed the best of both worlds having the ability to watch their grandchildren grow up. His family loved him very much.

Pastor April Phillips will officiate a memorial service on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 1:00pm in the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Burial will follow in Huntsville Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.

EICHHOLTZ DARING & SANFORD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, BELLEFONTAINE, is honored to serve the Runkle family and encourages anyone to share a fond memory or message of condolence at www.edsfh.com
