David L. “Dave” Vassar, 77, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in Logan Acres Care Center, Bellefontaine.
He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on April 14, 1948, the son of the late Donald Roy and Ceola K. (Vermillion) Vassar.
On August 17, 1968, he married Judith A. “Judy” (Rudasill) Vassar in the First Christian Church, Bellefontaine, and she survives.
He is also survived by a god daughter, Amanda (Michael) Neill, and grandchildren, Andrew, Alexander, and Abigail Neill. He is also survived by many cousins.
David graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 1966 and went on to The Ohio State University for a year to follow his admiration for TBDBITL (The Best Damn Band In The Land). He served his country during Vietnam, serving in the US Army from 1968 to 1974. He worked as a machinist for D.A.B. in Bellefontaine until his retirement in 2009.
David and his wife Judy enjoyed camping and were both national officers with the National Camping Travelers, a Masonic Family Camping Club. David was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine and also belonged to the Bellefontaine Lodge #209 F&AM, serving as Lodge Secretary and also as District Deputy. He was also active in volunteering at the Holland Theatre.
Pastor Larry Novak will officiate a funeral service on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11:00am at the First Lutheran Church, 208 W. Sandusky Avenue, Bellefontaine. Visitation will be Thursday, February 5th from 4 to 6pm at the Eichholtz & Daring Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311, where a Masonic service will be held at 6:15pm Thursday at the funeral home. Following the church services on Friday, burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty with military rites provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, 208 W. Sandusky Avenue, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311.
