John Sanders, Jr., was born on February 13, 1940 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Mary and John Sanders. John passed away at age 85, peacefully at his home surrounded by family in Centre, Alabama on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

Born in Sumter, South Carolina. He was the second born of 11 Brothers and Sisters to John and Mary Sanders. He grew up on a farm where he helped out as a farm hand. He attended public schools in Sumter, SC. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. He would soon move to Port Chester, NY for better opportunities. After some time he returned to South Carolina to marry the love of his life, Sarah Lee Montgomery. From that union 4 children, Arlene, John, Melissa and Vincent.

He worked 2 jobs for nearly 40 years to provide for his family until his retirement. He dedicated himself to his ailing wife up until the day the Lord called her home, May 1, 2008. He served in many offices in the church, such as Trustee, Deacon and Elder. He loved the Lord and dedicated his life to Him. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather and brother.

John was preceded in death by his parents Mary and John Sanders. Wife, Sarah Lee Sanders. Son, Vincent Stewart Sanders. Brothers, Roosevelt Sanders (Daphne), Samuel Sanders (Rhetta). Sisters, Earnestine Gathers (Johnnie), Eva Prioleau (Ervin). He leaves to mourn devoted daughters, Arlene Robinson (Torusunto), Melissa Hale (Ronny). Son, John Sanders (Notre). Brothers, Jimmy Sanders (Frances), Robert Sanders (Janice), James "Roy" Sanders (Julia), Ronald Gregory Sanders. Sisters, D. Michelle Dennis (Neal), Evelena Prioleau (Billy). 9 Grandchildren, 24 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 N 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Burial to follow at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
