John Andrew Scheff, age 95, of Rimrock, AZ, formerly of Welcome, MN, passed away on April 5, 2025, after a brief stay at Generations Senior Living in Clarkdale, AZ.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, MN. Military honors will follow at 11:00 AM, presented by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County VFW Post 1222. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, with lunch afterward at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred.
John was born on August 9, 1929, in Manyaska Township, Martin County, MN, to Eugene and Clara (Pluta) Scheff. He grew up on a farm near Welcome and graduated from Welcome High School in 1948. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served honorably during the Korean War until 1953.
He worked at the Welcome Creamery until 1975 and later at the Bertha Co-op Creamery, retiring in 1991. A skilled handyman and generous neighbor, John was always ready to lend a hand, whether fixing equipment, mentoring youth through Big Brothers Big Sisters, or delivering supplies in winter storms.
In 1991, John married Betty (Shriber) Scheff, and that same year they moved to Arizona, where they spent their remaining years together. They volunteered for Meals on Wheels and rang bells for the Salvation Army during the holidays, finding joy in serving others and building community.
John is survived by his children: Steven Scheff, Vicky Tadd (Allan), Douglas Scheff (Robin), and Charnelle Scheff; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; wife Betty Scheff; stepdaughters Karen Luberts and Kim Porter Henneman; step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
John will be remembered for his service, strength, and generous heart. He will be deeply missed.
