Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waite Funeral Home Medina from Jul. 25 to Jul. 30, 2025.
November 3, 1932 – July 20, 2025 John R. Schindelholz, 92, a lifelong resident of Medina, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on November 3, 1932, to Fred and Ruth (Holtzburg) Schindelholz, John spent his entire life rooted in the town and community he so dearly loved. A graduate of Medina High School, John answered the call to serve his country during the Korean War. He joined the United States Coast Guard and became a telegraph operator. Following his service, John returned to Medina and poured his heart into his work and community. For more than 45 years, he co-owned and operated Medina Radio & TV, becoming a familiar and trusted face to generations of local families. With his talkative demeanor and genuine kindness, John built not just a business, but a legacy of service and connection with his customers. In 1951, John married his high school sweetheart, Caroline Rickard. Their love story, spanning an extraordinary 74 years, was a beautiful testament to lifelong devotion. John found his greatest happiness at home, nestled along the banks of the Rocky River. He delighted in the simple pleasures of life-walking the wooded trails, riding his golf cart with his wife and their dog Gracie. He was a man who valued nature, family, and the beauty in everyday moments. John's presence was a gift to all who knew him. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and a joyful great-grandfather. His warmth, integrity, and deep sense of gratitude touched everyone he met. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Caroline and their children: Sally Hawke, late Dan (Denise) Schindelholz, Janice (Al) Skrinska, Anne (Patrick) McGuire. He will be forever cherished by his grandchildren: Mark (Family), Erin (Nick), Melissa (Darlington), David (Kelly), Doug (Ashley), and Jenny (Zack), and by his great grandchildren: Bryce, Madelynn, Lydia, Carter, Bianca, Charlie, Ella, Owen, Emily, and Evelyn. John is now reunited in peace with his beloved son Dan, his sister Jeanette, and his brother Joseph. A private Celebration of Life will be held in John's Park-a place he treasured deeply-where a tree will be planted in his memory. standing tall as a living symbol of a life well lives and a man dearly loved.
