John Crosby Schott, 84, of Carmel, Indiana passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025. Born on August 20, 1941 in Akron, Ohio to John Wanner Schott and Frances Louise Crosby Schott, John lived a full and happy life surrounded by the people he loved most. He will be deeply missed in the hearts of those who love him.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Ann McMahon Schott, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. He was a proud dad to Rick (Terri) Schott and Kerrie (Chris) Schott Cossell. He was a loving grandfather “Poppy” to Abby (Colin) Schott O’Leary, Carly (Mason) Schott Stirtz, Grace Schott, Max Cossell, Eli Cossell and great-grandfather to Rowen O’Leary. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews that he dearly treasured.
John proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he spent time aboard the USS Lloyd Thomas and USS Darby. His service took him around the world and one of the great honors of his life was marching in President John F. Kennedy’s inauguration parade – an experience that shaped his deep sense of duty and patriotism.
John was a loyal fan through and through – there was rarely a time he was not found attending his grandchildren’s events and activities or cheering on his favorite teams: the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Indianapolis Colts. Game days were some of his favorite days, especially when he could share them with family. He also had a love for musical theatre and the fine arts, with The King and I holding a special place as his favorite musical.
He will be remembered for his warm smile, spontaneous singing, and resounding laugh. John leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love with a proud legacy that his family will carry forward.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at The Restoracy of Carmel for their care and kindness.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at a future date. The family requests that any memorial contribution in his honor be made to the American Cancer Society or to any local organization supporting youth sports or fine arts.
